My professional career began in 1995, when I held an internship at a
commercial production company in Munich, Germany. Subsequently I have
worked in all areas of film making and learned the craft through hands
on experience, e.g. as an 1st assistant editor on such movies as Oscar
winner Caroline Link’s “Beyond Silence” and Wolfgang
Becker’s much heralded “Life is a Building Site”.
In 1997 I moved to Los Angeles, partly because I felt the need to revisit
my American past (I am an American born German) and partly because I wanted
to learn the American way of filmmaking.
There I enrolled into the film program at the prestigious Art Center College
of Design and graduated in 2001 with a BfA in Film and Photography. In
the years since, I have found myself directing commercials, music videos,
industrial films, while also taking on work as a freelance photographer.
Not all have loved my work, but those who did quite often even felt compelled
to honor it (Telly award for “Fuji Quicksnap” in 2001, featured
new talent in boardsmag.com for “G-Shock” campaign in 2002
and Turkey shoot award for “This is how that feels” video
in 2003).
As a photographer my work grazes record covers, corporate websites, tour
posters, the walls of photo collectors and was part of exibitions (9/11
photography relief auction in 2002, “Los Angeles contemporary photography”
at the smell gallery in 2003).
Currently I am living in Berlin and am pre-producing two feature films
together with my co-writer Stephan Heering and the Munich based production
company Screencraft Entertainment GmbH.
